• Use a strong, simple silhouette

  Tattoos are read from a distance. Photos with one clear subject and a clean outline make better designs than busy scenes.

• Remove the background

  Choose No BG, or crop tightly, so only the subject remains. Background lines have no place on a stencil.

• Think about size on the body

  Fine detail disappears in a small tattoo. If you plan to go small, pick a style with fewer, bolder lines.

• Bring it to a professional

  The sketch is a reference, not a finished stencil. A good artist will adapt the lines to your body and to how ink ages.

Styles that suit it

• Clean Line Art. Uniform outlines with no shading. The closest thing to a stencil.
• Ink sketch. Expressive pen work for sketch-style and illustrative tattoos.
• Minimal Sketch. Very few, clean lines. Suits fine-line and small tattoos.
